Mid-Century Modern
Our clients purchased this 1965 mid-century modern home in the heart of Richardson for several reasons. This home backs up to a wooded creek and the windows lining the rear of the home offer the perfect picture frames to bring the outside in. They have a young family and want a large yard to play in with functional space where they can be together as a family.
Although the home had not been updated and still had many of the original 1965 finishes, our clients did not even want to consider tearing it down, like so many of their Canyon Creek neighbors! They love anything retro, in fact they established several local retro arcade and pinball entertainment restaurants in Dallas-Fort Worth Metroplex. They like to take risks with color and love the 1960’s architecture of this home, which is why they wanted to maintain many of the original features.
The kitchen was opened up and reconfigured to create a cohesive open concept kitchen, living room, and dining room. The master bathroom was completely reconfigured, creating a large double shower, private water closet, and new walk-in closet. The kid’s bathroom was also reconfigured from a choppy Jack & Jill bathroom to a simple, modern bathroom with a whimsical feel.
They kept as much of their original home as possible. The heavy rock wall around the fireplace, the wood paneled ceiling with clerestory windows, and even the wood railing between the sunken living room and the hallway to the kitchen. An abstract wood bookcase wall was built in their office giving off the perfectly cool “library” feel.
Once we were done, Elite Outdoor Living completed this fabulous makeover with gorgeous outdoor living spaces. Whether you are a kid wanting to explore the creek down below or an adult wanting to sit and enjoy a glass of wine or mingle with friends, the outdoor living spaces around this house are spectacular. Tie it all together and I would say every inch of this house was built just for our clients. It is a perfect home for their family, and they will definitely be living better from here on!
