It is that magical time of year when local towns and cities transform themselves from normal, everyday garb to dazzling winter wonderlands. Do not fool yourself and assume that you must live in a cold area to experience all the joys of winter. The cooler weather brings on its own affects to Lake Norman residents and this typically warmer region has no trouble holding their own when it comes to Christmas cheer.

Lake Norman Christmas Lights Boat Parade

If boats and Christmas are both your jam, then the lighted boat parade is just your thing. Find yourself a spot at Blythe Landing, the Duke Energy Explorium, or Ramsey Creek Park to see the show. Families get the chance to take pictures with Santa, dine at the food trucks in the surrounding areas, and hunker down for the parade that begins at 6:45PM, in which the boats float down the lake in all their lighted splendor.

Candlelight Christmas Tour at the Latta Plantation

If you are looking for a more romantic local event, you can experience Christmas by Candlelight at the historic Latta Plantation. Holiday themed tours are offered, take visitors throughout the house and into the kitchens and is finished off with cookies and hot cider by the fire. Tickets are available by preorder only, so make sure to get that taken care of before heading out. There are few things more magical at Christmas than a historic home with its halls decked to the nines. And who knows? You may find inspiration for your own custom home renovations.

Christmas at the Library

Perhaps the most magical aspect of this event is the fact that both the activities and parking for the event are always free. Visitors can enjoy a journey of faith tour, performances from carolers, a live nativity, carriage rides through sparkling light displays, and holiday shopping at Ruth’s Attic Bookstore. While at the library, guests get to enjoy dinner and holiday treats at the Graham Brothers Dairy Bar, as well as a tour through the Graham family homestead. If you are feeling super hungry, you can even have dinner at the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association Headquarters.

Cocoa with Santa

If you are looking for a local place to get your kids’ picture taken with Santa, why not head over to the Cornelius Arts Center for crafts and holiday treats, as well?
