Whether you are designing a new custom home or remodeling an older home, the master bath is one room in the house where most clients feel very passionate about wanting it “just right”. At the end of a long day or at the beginning of a new one, a beautiful, smartly-designed and relaxing master bath can really impact “living better”.
We were recently discussing some master bathtub and shower options and trends with a prospective client, and we thought it would be helpful to share some of the factors in this decision that we discussed. Maybe it can be the inspiration for your next project!
Space in Your Bathroom Design
If space is not a problem, then there are an unlimited amount of ways you can create the perfect fit.
Many clients are opting for stand-alone soaking tubs as a focal point in the master bath. These tubs are beautiful, but the drawbacks are that some are hard to get in and out of, and they do take up more space.

Wet Room
If you are limited in your square footage, an option that is gaining a lot of popularity is to include the tub inside the shower enclosure. This is sometimes referred to as a “wet room”. This idea combined the best of both worlds and is also a great option for families with small kids (or kids at heart) to splash away without worry of the mess.

How Often do you Bathe vs. Shower?
This may seem like a simple question, but it’s a critical one. If you can’t recall the last time you soaked in the tub, you may consider skipping the tub altogether and utilizing your space for a very large steam shower. Many clients are concerned if they don’t include a tub in the master bath design that it will affect resale value down the road. We say that depends. If there is at least one other tub somewhere else in the home for future owners with children, for instance, it shouldn’t have a major impact on resale.
We hope we’ve given you some food for thought about this aspect of your future home design or remodel. If we at Alair Homes Houston can be of any help to you in the future, please give us a call.
