Sharkfin Replacement
The owners referred to the existing addition as the ‘Sharkfin’ given its oddly-shaped roofline, and they couldn’t wait to replace it with something more fitting for the neighborhood. Their existing deck was also a bit heavy visually, so we undertook the project to replace both the deck and the addition. Bringing the addition into conformity with the neighborhood was straightforward, and what was constructed fits in as if it were built as part of the original home. The deck was rebuilt using a modified wood product called Kebony, which is extremely stable and will naturally turn gray over time without any maintenance needs. Stainless steel and aluminum rod railings create a minimal visual barrier from the deck, and new bluestone steps tie in the main front entry to the elevated parking pad. The exterior transformation of this project is stunning, and it was great to work alongside the owners to create a host of details that were important to them along the way.
