Lemon is quite familiar in the clean scene, many household cleaning products and detergents finish with a lemony scent. Lemons and lemon juice have long been used as natural cleaning agents, and as additives in high-potency manufactured chemical cleaners. A natural alternative for making high-potency cleaning agents at home is to use Lemon essential oils, with the power of 3000 lemons in one Litre of essential oil.

Lemon oils are strong enough to remove construction glue residue. Alair Homes Victoria recently finished a bathroom renovation where they removed a corner shower caddy and the shower walls were left with a sticky residue which seemed impossible to remove. Lemon essential oils were the solution, by dabbing a cloth with pure lemon oil and rubbing on the residue, it came right off, and left the room smelling great.
For a simple everyday use to keep soap residue and fungi away, dab 1 tsp of lemon oil with a damp cloth and wipe down glass shower doors, tile, liners, and caulking in the tub and shower.

Lemon & Lime Oils

Lime and lemon oils can be used in the home to remove glue, gum, wood stain, oil and grease spots. When stuck with unwanted stickers on a surface that are hard to get off, apply lemon oils to break down the adhesive and wipe away and you will be left with a fresh clean surface like new. Left over marks from removed Duct Tape, as well, is no match for lemon oils.

Instead of cleaning with bleach and ammonia which irritate the airways, eyes, skin and nervous system, switch to powerful homemade lemon oils and fill the air with pleasant soothing scents while cleaning away. Here are two recipes using Scarlet oils found at www.mydoterra/scarletoils:

After a home renovation, purifying the air with lemon oils helps remove any VOC’s contained in glues, paints, plastics, and dyes. To get rid of the new carpet smell after a carpet replacement, put 10-15 drops of Lemon Oil in 2 cups of baking soda, sprinkle over the carpet and let it settle for 20 minutes, vacuum, and ventilate the room for several hours, purify with diffused lemon oils, and that new carpet smell will go away and be replaced by the wonderful fresh smell of lemons, symbolizing the fresh start of your wonderful new home space.
