Contemporary Whole House Remodel in Preston Hollow
Finding a balance between traditional architecture and modern interiors is challenging for even the best interior designers. Lucky for our client, he hired one of the best to do just that, Joanie Wyll of Joanie Wyll Interior Designs. Europe is filled with centuries old traditional structures with very modern interiors so why not in Dallas, Texas. Our client is well traveled and a collector of fine and modern art. He wanted his house to reflect his passion for modern art and that meant the interiors would have to be redesigned and updated.
The house had a fabulous back yard bordered by a creek and mature trees. The covered porch was too small, and the cast stone balustrade further exasperated the limited space and views to the property. The pool, surrounding deck and landscape was also dated and tired. We engaged an architect and a seasoned landscape designer to rethink the exterior spaces. The result delivered a large modern covered patio that extends across the back of the house to the grill center that is located off the kitchen. The pool was modified to add a shallow tanning ledge, modern glass tiles and a darker plaster. A separate area was created to accommodate a firepit and the landscape was completely refreshed.
With a stunning back yard redesign, it became important to open the exterior walls to blur the lines between the interior and exterior spaces. Floor to ceiling sliding glass doors were incorporated to maximize the views and natural light. The kitchen was completely gutted and reconfigured to accommodate the modern Ornare cabinetry and professional appliances. The floors and walls were tiled in very large format porcelain tiles and the Quartzite countertops were designed with waterfall ends and mitered drop edges to complement the modern aesthetic. A pass-through window between the kitchen and outdoor grill was added for convenience.
The traditional cast stone fireplace mantel in the family room was replace by floor to ceiling quartzite slabs. Hardwood floors were refinished, recessed can lights were retrofitted with LED for energy efficiency and color correctness. Several art lights were added throughout.
Working with interesting clients while collaborating with great designers and architects is one of the greatest rewards for us. Inviting friends and neighbors to experience the newly renovated spaces is the icing on the cake for our clients.
