Split into a duplex, wrapped in vinyl siding, poorly conceived past additions, and a rotting roof were just a few of the issues at this 1920s four-square. Purchased for location and potential, the homeowner knew it would take a lot to get this home in shape. But beneath all those issues was a showstopper.
Stripping away the bad, we could celebrate the good, like the original pocket doors and front door, original door hardware, original staircase, and layout that had some real appeal and could work with some thoughtful additions and changes.
The home needed a true primary suite, a beautiful kitchen, and a practical function with a guest suite, laundry room, and a layout that brought it back to a single-family home. We shined up the best historical elements with careful rehab of the windows, doors, staircase, and floors. We also brought new materials to the bathrooms and kitchen that were in perfect balance with the existing historic charm.
Finally, after peeling back the vinyl siding, we installed cement board and trim, along with new columns, to restore the exterior to pristine condition.
The home is now a showpiece that fits perfectly in the neighborhood. No longer an eyesore, it is a celebration inside and out of a beautiful historic renovation.
