Request Project ConsultationOur clients purchased a 1963 home that had never been updated. They wanted to redesign the central living area, which included the kitchen, formal dining area, and living room/den.
Their original kitchen was small and completely closed off from the rest of the house. They wanted to repurpose the formal living room into the new formal dining room. They also wanted to open up the kitchen to the den and add a large island with seating for casual dining. The original den is now a nice living room open to the kitchen, with a great view of their new pool.
Our clients also wanted to keep some walls for their fun, one-of-a-kind New Orleans artwork. They did not want to be able to see the kitchen from the entryway, and they wanted a bar area built-in somewhere—they just weren’t sure where. Our designers did an amazing job on this project, figuring out where to cut and keep walls, where to replace windows with doors, and how to bring the outdoors in to really brighten up the entire space!
Our clients purchased this 1950 ranch style cottage knowing it needed to be updated. They fell in love with the location, being within walking distance to White Rock Lake. They wanted to redesign the layout of the house to improve the flow and function of the spaces while maintaining a cozy feel. They wanted to explore the idea of opening up the kitchen and possibly even relocating it. A laundry room and mudroom were also needing to be added. Both bathrooms needed a complete update and they wanted to enlarge the master bath if possible, to have a double vanity and more efficient storage. With two small boys and one on the way, they ideally wanted to add a 3rd bedroom to the house within the existing footprint but were open to possibly designing an addition, if that wasn’t possible.
In the end, we gave them everything they wanted, without having to put an addition on to the home. They absolutely love the openness of their new kitchen and living spaces and we even added a small bar! They have their much-needed laundry room and mudroom off the back patio, so their “drop zone” is out of the way. We were able to add storage and a double vanity to the master bathroom by enclosing what used to be a coat closet near the entryway and using that sqft in the bathroom. The functionality of this house has completely changed and has definitely changed the lives of our clients for the better.
What could go possibly wrong? Nothing with Alair as their contractor.
Some creativity was required to get these clients the overall feel of the home they wanted without breaking the budget.
The end result proves you can still have a big impact on a small budget if you target key areas and spend wisely.
While a perfectly nice house, the owners felt it lacked life, charm, and presence. Originally built in 1922 the home had been through several paint color changes but nothing that really succeeded in giving it the curb appeal it so desperately needed. On a block where everyone had curb appeal, the owners asked Alair to help them up their game and create some appeal of their own.
These owners were downsizing out of a 7,500 sqft home built in the '80s to their "forever home." They wanted Alair to create a traditional setting that showcased the antiques they had collected over the years, while still blending seamlessly with the modern touches required to live comfortably in today's world.
At first glance, this home felt more mid-evil than mid-century modern with its dark, dizzying and extremely outdated finishes. Originally built in 1948, it had great bones but the finishes did not reflect the owner's taste or personality. The owners asked Alair to update it in a way that made the most of both it's past glory and their present needs.
This home was built in 1983 and looked every bit its age. As is so often the case, the owners purchased it because it was a great deal, in a great school district and had "good bones." But the accolades ended at the curb. The home was a hotbed of bad choices and not to their liking. So armed with YouTube video and a Home Depot card they set out to change it.
After years of DIYing it and still not happy, the owners decided it was time to call Alair and get the expertise of professional help if they were ever going to have the home of their dreams.
Gentle curves with stately scale. Clean lines with ornate moldings. Cool marble mixed with warm woods. Traditional herringbone patters with modern glass accents. Velvet with linen. The juxtapositions go on and on. Alair delivers on what you want in a way that works seamlessly vs. challenges visually.
These clients moved from the East coast and wanted modern with a Texas flair that paid homage to their newly adopted state. Alair was able to create just the right mix where warm woods and native stone merge seamlessly with clean lines and contemporary touches.
This owner loved natural, rustic materials but wanted a modern home with contemporary lines. Alair combined large windows and thoughtful selections - beautiful hardwoods, neutral stones, inspired colorful accents - to create a space even Mother Nature would envy.
Dress it up. Dress it down. Add a few touches to make it rock. Or just keep it simple and classic. Wherever you see your life going, Alair can build you a home that will take you there, year after year.
This family had outgrown their dated 1960's ranch but moving away from school and friends was not an option. Because the home had ceased to serve their needs there was no pride of ownership. They needed a change, but the budget (and design) had to be substantial enough to truly make an impact on how they lived. Like most families their funds were not without limits. They had to find that balance between working with what they had and where/when to add to make a real difference.
They picked Alair because we believe changing one's environment can change one's life. And they were looking for just that.
These clients had very different tastes when it came to building a dream home. One spouse had a style that was romantic and traditional; the other's was more eclectic and casual. In the end, Alair was able to give both what they wanted - a home as unique as they were.
The owners wanted to focus their budget in the interior of the home and keep the exterior simple and appropriate in size, style, and scale to the neighborhood. Alair gave them just the right blend of understated style for their budget.
This home made a statement from the moment the forms went in. Grand in scale and discerning in finishes, Alair mastered the art of understated elegance in building for this client.
While a treasured piece of history, this colonial home built in 1938 and "refreshed" in the '70s was no longer fitting the needs or style of this maturing, modern day family. The owners wanted more privacy so a master suite addition seemed like the obvious solution. But unlike the previous interior "refresh" the addition meant dealing with the Historic District's parameters so they called Alair who they knew had previous experience with historic homes.
