If you own a house and keep a lawn, you know how difficult it is to keep it looking its best. In fact, this is a struggle almost all homeowners make. With this in mind, here are five lawn care tips for the summer months.

Take care of pests: Believe it or not, you will want to worry about pests during the hot summer months. While most people worry about the heat, this is a mistake. Of course, one should remember the heat. However, in reality, pests can do more damage and make the lawn more vulnerable. To take care of this, the minute you see any pests, take care of the issue. By killing gophers or other small animals, you can keep your lawn looking nice. Then, you can take care of other issues.

The Time of Day You Water Effects the Amount the Lawn Absorbs

Water in the morning: Sadly, many homeowners will water their lawn in the middle of the day. While tempting, you will want to water your lawn in the early morning hours. Think about it, if you turn your sprinklers on at three in the afternoon, you will watch as most of the water evaporates. Instead, turn your sprinklers on early in the morning. If possible, to get the most out of the experience, buy a timer and turn on your sprinkler in the middle of the night.

Mow often: While a lush and nice looking lawn is the goal, you will still want to mow a few times a month. Otherwise, if you let it grow out of control, you will deal with a host of issues. In fact, if you let the lawn grow out, it will end up needing more work in the long run. Not only that, when the grass is too long, the water will not reach the roots. This will leave you with plenty of brown patches and wasted water. While true, you don’t want to take this too far. If you mow your lawn down to the roots, the blades will start to turn brown and look bad. However, once you determine the right length, you will find your sweet spot and avoid issues.

Removing Weeds More Frequently Allows for Continued Lawn Growth

Take care of weeds: While weeds are annoying to look at, they can also cause plenty of damage. Once you deal with weeds, you will watch as your lawn recovers to its original and beautiful state. Otherwise, if you let the weeds grow out of control, you will deal with a serious issue. Consider this, when the weeds take all the water from the lawn, your grass will start to turn brown and die out. However, you can’t wait until the problem gets out of control. Instead, you will want to take a proactive approach. Otherwise, if you pull out weeds by hand, you will sit in the sun all day.

Take care of brown patches: It’s easy to watch as brown patches add up in your yard. When you see one or two, you will want to take a proactive approach. To do so, first inspect the grass and see if you can spot any obvious issues. If this isn’t the case, you will want to, at minimum, water the grass heavily. If this doesn’t fix the issue in a matter of weeks, you will want to try to fertilize the area. Finally, if all else fails, run out and buy some grass seeds and plant it in the area. Then, when doing so, you can plant the seed and water the area thoroughly. Without a doubt, when you knock this issue out and remove the brown spot, your lawn will look amazing.

If you live in a hot and dry area, you will need to take a proactive approach to keep your lawn looking its best. Sadly, this is a struggle for plenty of homeowners. However, if you follow these five simple tips, you will enjoy a nice looking lawn during the summer.
